Did you know your subconscious mind is both your enemy and friend during your bar exam prep?
It’s like the Protagonist’s sword in Paulo Coehlo’s book, The Pilgrimage. It wields great power, but that power can be used for your benefit or your detriment.
I’m sure you have heard the statement, “We only use 10% of our brain.”
Well, that’s because 90% of our true power rests in the subconscious mind. It’s like an ice berg. Most of our power is underneath the surface.
So, what does this mean and how does it apply to the bar exam?
Did you know that in life, people have a certain threshold of what their subconscious mind will allow them to achieve?
This holds true for all areas from money to relationships, and yes to the bar exam.
For example, in the money realm. Our subconscious has both a High and Low threshold that we have created for ourselves based on life experiences and circumstances, especially as a young child.
Our mind won’t allow us to sink any lower than a certain point in terms of the finances we make. But, it also won’t allow us to go higher than the threshold we have set.
If we go too low, our mind will kick us into action. If we go too high, our mind will sabotage us to bring us back within the threshold.
Why does the subconscious mind do this?
Because our subconscious mind is designed to keep us comfortable. It lives on a pain-pleasure principle. What’s Known is pleasurable because it is comfortable to us. What’s Unknown is painful because it is uncomfortable to us.
We would rather live with a pain we know and are accustomed to, than a pleasure which we don’t know.
This is why lottery winners spoil their earning so many times. They are not comfortable with the idea of so much money and self-sabotage kicks in. Their mind sabotages them until they come back to their comfort zone.
And guess what?
This can happen with the bar exam as well – both a High and Low threshold.
Some people’s Low point is so high that no matter what, they are going to pass the bar exam. Any alternative is not reality in their mind, thus their subconscious mind will guide them to all the right actions steps to get there.
Some people’s High is so low that no matter what, they are going to fail the bar exam. They could spend hours, months, and even years studying, but it won’t do them any good, because they simply have the bar set too high – they can’t fathom passing the bar exam in their subconscious.
Most people probably have it in between. It rests somewhere within the High and Low threshold, and their success will be determined by their ability to keep their beliefs strong about passing, which will help them make it through the rough patches and guide them to taking the right action to passing the bar exam.
So, one of the big keys to your success on your bar exam is creating a belief system that is in alignment with you passing the bar exam.
Once, this belief is set rock solid within you, nothing can stop you from passing.
